At Eclectic Music we are proud to say we have lots of community based ensembles in the heart of Hull. These include a symphony orchestra, wind orchestra, chamber choir, saxophone, clarinet and flute ensembles and contemporary ensembles to name but a few.
All of our ensembles rehearse at Maister House in Hull’s old town, and take part in our performance program throughout the year.
With a strong commitment to delivering a high standard of music performance, but also enabling widespread participation, the Eclectic Orchestra and Eclectic Wind Orchestra are our pinnacle ensembles aiming to represent a continued dedication towards the arts, music and culture for our city both locally and nationally.
All our ensembles have a wide variety of repertoire, covering a variety of styles including traditional favourites, film and show music, popular songs, large scale orchestral and vocal works as well as new commissions from local composers and our in-house arranger/composer .
We try to bring our Eclectic twist to all our performances – rather than conforming to “traditional” performance styles, we work with local artists using film, lighting and electronics‘as well as an eclectic mix of musicians and other artists from the rock and pop idioms to create new and exciting opportunities for our city.
There is a membership subscription fee to take part in our ensembles as an Eclectic Music Member which can be paid either in one sum per year in September or divided into two separate payments, one in September and one in March. Our rates are £100 per year for one ensemble, £150 per year for two or more – with discounts and flexibility for households, students and hardship.
Eclectic Orchestra
The Eclectic Orchestra is a large scale ensemble made up of musicians from Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The orchestra aims to deliver at least three large performances every year including Spring, Summer and Christmas.
Requirements:
- Grade 6 standard or above on the instrument in which you intend to play on. It is ok if you hold no formal qualification but feel you play to this standard then please feel free to get in touch.
Eclectic Wind Orchestra
The Eclectic Wind Orchestra is a large scale brass, woodwind and percussion ensemble made up of musicians from Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
Requirements:

Eclectic Sax Collective
Our saxophone choir is forever growing! We welcome players of grade five standard or above on any type of saxophone. An informal audition process through attending a rehearsal is required.
The Eclectic Sax Collective performs regularly and plays lots of music also performed by the National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain as well as our very own commissions and arrangements. Rock, pop, classical, jazz and even folk music influences can be seen throughout our repertoire. We aim to keep our music current and challenging as well as exciting!
Eclectic Clarinet Collective
An ensemble consisting of the whole family of clarinets. We play and perform classical and contemporary arrangements in lots of different styles. Our aim is to showcase the diverse nature of the clarinet and how it can be effectively used to create interesting and engaging performances. We welcome players of grade five standard or above.
Eclectic Flute Collective
Our Flute collective perform on a whole range of flutes performing classical and contemporary works as well as new commissions and arrangements. Our aim is to showcase just how versatile the flute can be. Expect to hear the flute as you have not heard it before!
The Eclectic Vox Collective
Our chamber choir, the Eclectic Vox Collective, brings together the whole range of voice types. Performing traditional chamber works as well as contemporary pieces, singing with our symphony orchestra and undertaking commissions, the Eclectic Vox Collective deliver high level performances of music from a wide variety of genres.
The Eclectic Ensemble
The Eclectic Ensemble welcomes players of grade 2 – 5 standard across all/all instruments with the main focus on rehearsing and playing together, understanding the music in all its facets, ensemble musicianship skills and working towards performing together in a relaxed and informal manner.
