Instrument Repairs

We have two trained and experienced repair technicians and a fully equipped instrument repair workshop at Eclectic Music.

Both of our repairers are woodwind specialists, and Noel has also achieved a professional membership of NAMIR covering brass and woodwind repairs. We will always treat your instrument as if it were our own. All work is carried out professionally and to the highest standards.

Our repair services for brass or woodwind start with “Make it Play” – for minor fault assessment and resolution.

For woodwind instruments, we then provide three basic service levels plus custom and additional work. Different instruments involve different amounts of work; we will always discuss any issues with your instrument and advise of any additional work that may be required. On the other hand, we will never advise or undertake unnecessary work!

For more information please email repairs@eclecticmusic.co.uk or contact us.

“Make it play” – from £15

To fix a particular problem with your instrument, or diagnose a fault. We will assess the instrument and fix any small issues. If additional parts or materials are required, or the repair will be complicated, we will contact you to discuss this before any work is done.

Woodwind BRONZE Service – Inspect, Regulate and Lubricate – from £60

This is a great option if you look after your instrument and want it checked over regularly to keep it in tip top condition.
Each instrument will be carefully assessed by our repairer. All key work will be regulated and lubricated/oiled, the instrument will be put into good playing order and will finally be play tested by our expert repairer. The instrument will not be disassembled, but will be lightly cleaned to keep it looking its best.

Woodwind SILVER Service – General service – from £125

If your instrument is in need of some TLC, this is the package for you.

Following an initial assessment, your instrument will be stripped down completely and the body and keys cleaned and polished, with all old oil removed. We will check the condition of all rods, screws, pads, springs and corks and re-seat the pads as required (up to two will be replaced if necessary). The instrument will be reassembled, lubricated, regulate and play tested.

Woodwind GOLD Service – Full overhaul – from £250

The most thorough of our service options. This package includes everything from the general service plus a full new set of pads. A full repad and service can make your instrument feel and play its best again.

In addition to all work from the general service above, a full set of news pads will be fitted, seated and regulated. Corks/springs/felts will be replaced as necessary; full replacement is an additional cost option. Our standard price includes our stock high quality pads; other and custom pad options are available at extra cost.

Any mechanical issues will be fixed while the instrument is dismantled.

Brass general service – from £75

This applies to traditional valved instruments, french horns and trombones. Other rotary valved instruments will be assessed and discussed separately, as will specific slide work or other repairs, dent removal, etc.

Following an initial assessment, your instrument will be stripped down completely and all parts cleaned and polished, including valves and slides. Water key corks and springs, valve felts etc. will be replaced if required/requested. The instrument will be reassembled, lubricated and play tested. French horns will have strung rotaries restrung, and trombones will have the slide polished and rotary valves restrung.

Other work and any custom work will be charged at £25 per hour plus parts and materials, subject to a minimum job fee of £15. Estimates of the time and parts required will be discussed before any work is started.

Examples include:
Individual pads/springs/corks, dent removal, crack fixing, stuck mouthpieces, valves or slides, individual valve/rotary service or restring, mouthpiece repairs, re-soldering, keywork alterations, custom/ergonomic enhancements, instrument assessments (pre-purchase, post purchase or for insurance)
